I was planning on buying a gtx 1080 soon but now I'm not sure if I should buy a 1070ti and use the extra budget on something else like a more decent hdd or a nicer keyboard (see pcpartpicker link below). Is the extra money for the 1080 really worth it for gaming only?

Also which brand would you recommend? I was thinking about Asus or EVGA but their prices are usually somewhat higher than other companies like Zotac or MSI, are they worth it?

It should be noted that I plan on getting a 120 hz monitor soon after the gpu, I play a little of everything but I'm currently playing lots of Overwatch and Monster Hunter World.

Thanks for the tips :D

That looks pretty good except one thing raised my eyebrow - why did you add a 320gb 2.5" 5200rpm Hard drive?  Lol.

As for the GPU, the 1070ti is only 6% slower on average than the 1080, so it all boils down to if that 6% is worth the extra cash.  For me, not so much.

For the brand, I tend to avoid Powercolor, but the rest are A-OK in my book.  Go for the best price that has good reviews.

Yup, 1080 is around 10-11% faster on average.

So calculate how much more expensive the 1080 is.

Is it 399€ vs. 499€? You're fine with 1070 ti.

Is it 479€ vs. 499€? Get the 1080.

I highly recommend on going for a 144 Hz Monitor with 2560x1440 resolution. We almost have 2019, you don't buy a Cheapass 1080p Monitor, if you have money for a GTX 1080.

Of course, with G-Sync, because that will make it MUCH smoother (even with 144 Hz) when you have fluctuating fps~. Doesn't matter if you only hit 50-60 fps, or 120 fps, it will be smooth and clean frametimes.

The Monitor (more resolution, G-Sync, more Hz) is the main thing, that will increase your Gaming experience. Not just having xx more fps with a stronger GPU.

And if it's a budget question: GTX 1070 ti + G-Sync > GTX 1080 without G-Sync.

As for Brands: KFA² is a solid cheap card.

Palit Jetstream / Gamerock, or Gainward Phoenix are THE Best GTX 1080 out there, Period.

Asus Strix is bad on GTX 1080, but excellent on GTX 1070 ti.

MSI Gaming X is decent on both.

EVGA (even the best, FTW) is just average. Service is great, but the Cooler (Temperature / Noise) is simply just average.

Gigabyte is average / below average. Gigabyte Aorus is fine

Zotac AMP! Extreme is good.

Edit: Might also consider a 1440p 144 Hz Freesync Monitor, and a Vega 56 instead.

Freesync + Vega 56 will feel MUCH better, than a regular Monitor with a GTX 1080, which will deliver non-synced 10-15%~ more fps.

Overclocked 1070 is as fast as a stock clocked 1070 Ti.

Overclocked 1070 Ti is as fast as a stock clocked 1080.

Overclocked 1080 is as fast as a stock clocked 2070.

Decide how much you want to spend and if you want to do manual OC, factory OC, or stock speeds.
