IDEAL GPU for 1080p !!!

Waqas409

I was watching GTX 1060 delivering 60+ fps on most of the games in high-ultra settings on 1080p, which diverts my mind from buying gtx 1070 or 1070ti and saving up the rest $$$.
But im a bit confuse about its future proof thingy !!!

What will be the best and budget GPU which can last long, delivering 60 fps atleast for current games and for next 2-4 years upcoming games.

for 1080P display only,

Ryzen 5 3600 | MSI B450 Tomahawk Max | Corsair Vengeance lpx 32gb 3600mhz | EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING | XPG Core Reactor 850w

For 60+ FPS in current and future games with high or better settings for the next 2-4 years, you're best off going with at least a 1070TI.

That being said who knows what kind of new graphical advances we'll have then, besides RTX.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

what kind of 1080p gaming? 240hz? 144hz? 60hz? what graphics settings?
for 240hz you want a 1080ti(you want to eliminate a gpu bottleneck), 144hz you want at least a 1070ti/1080/vega64, and for 60hz you'll be fine with a 1060 6gb/rx580 8gb

also future proofing isnt a thing, just buy whatever you can afford now and when you are looking to upgrade buy whatever you can afford then

1070/1070TI or future proof it with 2070.

thats dumb, he might as well just get a 1080 cause the 2070 is a 1080 that costs $100 more

1080p display, 60hertz, graphics setting high-ultra.
maybe dual 1080p screens later but for now only single display.

do you plan on staying at 60hz or do you want to upgrade to a 144hz panel? i say buy a used 1080 or a vega 64 and call it a day but im also a competitive esports gamer who games at 1080p low with a vega64

the radeon 580 and the geforce 1060, which are the same performance gpu no matter how you get around your tests, both get me around 1080p 100+ fps on medium/high settings

i'll stay with 60hz, as i dont see any reason to go for 144hz or more, but as i mentioned i'll definitely go dual screen later on.

they'll be the same, maybe a poorly optimized game comes out, like kingdom come diliverance did this year, and that one game won't run on the gpu as well, but a 1080p game today will be mostly the same as a 1080p game tomorrow. just a reminder that we got more powerful GPU not because 1080p was more difficult to render, but rather because we moved up from 720p, and the new GPU out today are for 4k, already past 1080p.

so upgrade in 2-3 years, no such thing as future proofing, older hardware performs worse, thats the nature of computers

see you say this now but you might change your mind in the future and now you are caught in a predicament where you need to upgrade sooner rather than later, i said the same thing 2 years ago and now i game at 144hz(gonna be getting a 240hz benq zowie here soon)

i say go big, get a used 1070ti/1080 or vega64 and call it a day

Until 4k is the mainstream, most games will still be made for 1080p.

And that means the 1060 will be lasting longer.

At worst you will just tuned down the quality settings to get 60fps in 3-5 years from now.

I should mention that heavily rumored is the upcoming radeon 590 next month, which is rumored cost around $300 and get you more performance than the 580/1060. However these are rumors and must have absolutely 0 bearing on your actual gpu purchase. That said, if they're what people suspect them to be, then that would be the best for high setting at 60 fps for price.

I do agree that green is better in the high end, but the mid range cards have very little variance to even better value on team red. So my recommendation would be to dance with team red until you can tango with green in the future.

1060 6GB or RX 580 8GB are good 1080p cards that won't have trouble at 60fps.

If you're planning on using it in this system, I'd recommend replacing it as well. A 10 year old C2Q CPU is going to let you down in games, same with your 6GB DDR2 memory.

That's still a relatively old system. I'm not sure how it stacks up tbh, but remember that core clocks aren't everything; if it was, then AMD would have been king for years.

My vote goes for the 1070Ti. No one can tell the future, and even if they could, there's no such thing as future proof.
