Ok, extremely new to building PCs so just wondering how suitable a M.2 32mb Optane would be simply to run the system. Will prob have 1 or 2 SSDs for media storage.

Just put windows on one of the SSD's.

Its a million dollars for a few gigabytes, just not worth it.

Taking cost out of the equation, would it run any quicker?

I've done it, my Windows is installed directly on the 32gb Optane Memory module working like a NVMe SSD.

It works perfectly great but you have to remember to move your pagefile to the secondary SSD, along side Downloads folder and every thing else outside.

My system when it had the i7 8700 it'd boot within 5~7 seconds, all load up ready to use.

It's worth it even if just for the fun of it personally speaking, I have the Windows and like my NOD32 antivirus and Firefox installed on it, every thing else installed on the other drives.

I suppose I would only be doing it for a laugh anyway since I'm just trying to be a speed freak of a system as a one-up-manship game with the brother in law

Why not just getting M.2 SSDand use that : / It's fast enough (maybe not for everyone)

I have a connection who can get Optane at a decent discount so if it is the be all and end all for a reasonable price, I'll use that.

Real world differences between a normal ssd and Optane are like 1-2 seconds boot time and almost null for most ordinary tasks once booted. Managing 32GB for the os and apps sucks...I know from experience. 128GB is the minimum id ever use again. Right now I use almost 100GB/250GB for my OS drive which is strictly OS and applications.
