Hi,

I'm New here,

so what I would like to know is what is the best ways to create a lab\test network where I can test deployment from  a server , and use WDS to img bulk pc's.   The Why I live in a share house with I travel a lot for work, and in the past, they have reset the modem after a power outage and the server did not come back on (it was running DHCP).

before I start I would like to hear what other people have done, before i spend time looking at solutions that wont work

Budget?

If a power outage is a problem a ups is probalby a good option.

For my home server I have a dual 2011 build running proxmox for vms with 12 hdd and 8 ssds and 72gb of ram with 20 cores. It works well, but I kinda want to get a r820 so I can get more ram and cpu power in there.

it's more I live with idiots, I have a server with ESXi with 4 VMs, I was thinking I might but in some form of  PF sense set up  to act as a gateway for the test/lab network

i have multiple switches and  mostly cisco there a bit old but all still work

If you just want a router for the lab, just fire it up in a vm.

Get a ups though if you don't have one already.

That's what I was thinking I will have a look tonight, so next question pf sense is the way to go for a VM router?

Pfsense isn't just a router, it's much more than that. It's a firewall appliance with IDS/IPS and routing functionality :)
