To capture your desktop, windows aero needs to be activated.

Have you enabled "Monitor Aero Desktop(DWM)"... It's in the general tab

Fraps is made for gameplay not screen recording camtasia would be better suited to this  

Oh no, clearly FRAPs can't record desktop....

I use Open Broadcaster Software to record my gameplay or whatever. 

It's meant for streaming, but it can record your desktop or wtv too.
