First time building a gaming PC

Motion

So my current gaming computer is about 10 years old and I’m wanting to buy parts to build a new one, however, I’m hesitant to buy anything because I don’t want to cheap out but I’m also limited to how much I spend. Anyone have any tips for first time pc builders? :)

Welcome to the LTT forums! What are the specs of your current computer, some of the parts can be salvaged, and reused on a newer build.

10 year old unit, only thing salvageable would be the PSU and maybe SSD if OP eventually put one in. :|

The HDD may also be usable, and depending on what he purchased, there may just be some other components that are still relevant.

Create a budget, do your research, ask this forum any questions, make a list of parts, ask this forum to review your parts, wait till Black Friday, and then buy

I don't know about a 10 year old psu and ssd. The ssd is probably slow and the power supply even if it works might be a little risky to use in a new build. The hard drive is the only thing that comes to mind that might be useable.

Team Blue:

Due to price increases, Team Blue is harder to fit into your budget. Unless you wanted to drop down in the graphics department.

And budget would be around 700-1000

Do you plan to sell this PC to fund the new one? Or do you want to keep some of the parts like the 1050 Ti and the hard drives? The Dell case perhaps?

Whatever you decide mix and match based on  the post by @MandoPanda above.

By the way, where are you located?  What currency is that budget of yours?

CPU: Sempron 2500+ / P4 2.8E / P4 2.6C / A64 x2 4000+ / E6420 / E8500 / i5-3470 / i7-3770
GPU: TNT2 M64 / Radeon 9000 / MX 440-SE / 7300GT / Radeon 4670 / GTS 250 / Radeon 7950 / 660 Ti

Yeah, I’m only really going to keep graphics card, hard drives, and power supply since it’s a 500w Corsair psu

Yeah

So does that mean your budget is 700-1000 with selling the old pc and keeping those parts you mentioned?

I still recommend a 1060 or higher, though the 1050 ti can do 1080p on low settings most of the time. I used a 1050 ti for a long time.

Do you want AMD or Intel for your CPU?

Currency? Is the 700 to 1000 budget in US Dollars? Space Bucks? Euros? AUD? :D

Also where are you located?  Folks here can't help you further without those pieces of information. :)

Preferable intel since I’ve never used amd but I’m open to either. If I can get better performance with amd then I’ll go with that

For your price point, I recommend AMD. You will get an unlocked processor that you can overclock to get extra performance.
