USB to IDE adapter?

Hey everyone,

 

I'm working on a project with a device that only has an IDE connector for storage space.

I was hoping there would be an adapter that would allow USB memory sticks being plugged into an IDE connector but I can't seem to find one.

Is anyone aware of anything like this?

what device are you using that has only ide but no other interface?

and no you cannot adapt an ide controller to accept usb drives , you can backwards but thats about it

There is a ide to compact flash, an ide to sata, and an ide to sd card adapter, but not one for a flash drive that I'm aware of.

IDE is a parallel interface while USB (Universal Serial Buss) is... serial.

You are looking for a Parallel-to-serial converter/adapter, not just a cable with the right ends.

Is it like a motherboard, are there no USB headers on it ? must be ancient

You can buy SATA to IDE adapters to use a regular SATA hard disk or SSD and you can buy adapters which allow you to run an operating system from a CompactFlash card (but these cards are expensive and kinda old tech).

Note that some older boards and bioses may not handle hard drives bigger than 137 GB
