Hey everyone,

I'm working on a project with a device that only has an IDE connector for storage space.

I was hoping there would be an adapter that would allow USB memory sticks being plugged into an IDE connector but I can't seem to find one.

Is anyone aware of anything like this?

IDE is a parallel interface while USB (Universal Serial Buss) is... serial.

You are looking for a Parallel-to-serial converter/adapter, not just a cable with the right ends.

Something like this: https://www.takealot.com/usb-2-0-to-sata-ide-multi-hard-drive-adapter/PLID49127081?gclid=Cj0KCQjw08XeBRC0ARIsAP_gaQBIVV_bg_MhG-fAEIXaasUZUP-Sky3aIyyoiakHzzEX5kHIH9oagqkaApZdEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Is it like a motherboard, are there no USB headers on it ? must be ancient

You can buy SATA to IDE adapters to use a regular SATA hard disk or SSD and you can buy adapters which allow you to run an operating system from a CompactFlash card (but these cards are expensive and kinda old tech).

Note that some older boards and bioses may not handle hard drives bigger than 137 GB

examples:

SATA to IDE: LINK

CompactFlash to IDE : https://www.amazon.com/Syba-SD-CF-IDE-Connects-3-5-Inch-Interface/dp/B000TMDE6G?th=1 (3 versions )

See (limitations in bioses regarding disk sizes) https://support.wdc.com/knowledgebase/answer.aspx?ID=936

You may also find mSATA to IDE if you search around, which may allow you to use laptop hard drives.
