Samsung Laser Printer is Locked Up

I have a Samsung Xpress M2835DW Wireless Monochrome Laser printer which refuses to print because the toner is low. I know that I am going to have to replace the cartridge eventually although the printer is locked up until I put in another cartridge. Is there something I can do to make the printer print with this low on toner cartridge, I have seen some people tape/cover the sensor for toner although I am not sure if it is that or a chip which regulates the toner level as many HP LaserJets do?

Also, is it true that laser printers can be damaged if they are used on a low amount of toner (I read this online although do not think that this is something able to damage the printer)?
