You will want to do an image then for sure.  You can try the built in tool, which should work but personally I don't have experience using that function of it.  EaseUS would also do it, and that I have personally used with success.

However, I would advise getting an SSD as a boot drive, it will make a tremendous difference to your overall experience.

My HDD is around 4 years old so i think its time to upgrade to a new one.

I can't buy the hard drive until next month ,I'm afraid my old drive dies before end of the month so i want to back up my system and keep it on my extHd and restore it later in to the new hard drive.

can i use Eseus to do backup to backup my system  and restore it to a new hard drive?

My backup size is 148GB and I'm planing to buy a 1TB hard drive.

Thanks

Are you just backing up files or your entire system (OS and programs)?

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

What he said, just move your most used files on to a 250GB SSD to take the strain off your HDD, not to mention it is a huge improvement over HDD (nVME isn't worth it though, I can't feel the difference between my 250GB 970 Evo and my 1TB SATA drives)

You could clone to drive or use something like Syncredible and just run a copy routine of your most important data from one drive to another. It is what I do and works really well. My 4TB RAID gets copied to a 4TB external drive. I just have it set to look for anything that has changed and only copy the changes.

Im planing to upgrade to ssd but for now i need more storage space and my budget only enough for new hdd and my motherboard only support sata2 and i heard that ssd on sata2 does not give much differences in performance. Thanks for the advise btw

just so you know when it is time to upgrade, sata II will cap your max sequential speeds, but what really makes SSDs feel so much faster than HDDs is the massively improved (~10x - 100x) random speeds, and those will not be inhibited by sata II

Exactly. An SSD really does give life to an old machine.
