Need some recommendations!

I recently had a baby and am now being forced to use headphones for my gaming and music sessions in my office. I do like a little bass.

I dont have a good set of headphones.

I dont have a DAC/AMP.

Dont care about a mic at the moment.

Using Asus Maximus V Gene MB.

I can probably spend 400-500 but im new to this audiophile world.

What can you guys recommend me?

Using Asus Maximus V Gene MB.

Hey, that's the mobo I have! :D

It's as good as anything else with the most recent BIOS and driver updates - no need for a DAC or amp unless you want bling on your desk. Just plugged my DT 990 250ohm in to confirm, I think they get loud enough without extra amplification, but if you want to blow out your eardrums (speaking literally, not jokingly) maybe you'd want more.

Teach the baby to be an audiophile. Problem solved!

Ai, isn't Classical music good for brain development or something?  :D

the DT990. Or is being opened the only difference.

Ah, the enclose is the only difference, and it does change the sound, but it doesn't change how well they perform on the motherboard. Just to clarify/repeat myself - extra amping might be a nice upgrade path, but I don't think it's completely necessary.

yep, the non repetitive nature of classical is thought to promote neural pathway growth which leads to a higher IQ.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

Oh man I know right? I went out shoveling and the snow was piled like a foot high.

Well I think i need an amp.  Not very loud plugged directly into mb. No bass hardly  :(

A Fiio E10 or an o2/odac combo seems to be the biggest contenders around here...

Fiio E10 -> around ~75$ on amazon

o2/odac -> around ~250$ - 280$ from Mayflower Electronics

Just gave you a general idea of prices so you have a baseline for comparison :D

Edit: I love my Fiio E10 :D

Yes that's the vibe I'm getting around here. I was just really hoping my mobo could push these bad boys a little. I love explosions and the occasional heavy metal tracks.
