GPU isn‘t being recognized anymore!

Plank

Hey!

I am asking for a friend so I don‘t have much specs right now. A few days ago we played overwatch and suddenly his Pc didn‘t react anymore (blackscreen) and simply shut down!

afterwards he wasn‘t able to boot his pc and he reinstalled windows. Now it boots but the GPU doesnt show up in the Device Manager! And he can‘t install the AMD Drivers since it says there is no GPU in there. Even when he tries to change the display adapter in Bios to PCIE it just changes back to auto after applying.

-the gpu works in my Pc!

GPU: HD7870

MB: Asus P8H77-LE I think

Is it possible that somehow his pcie slot got fried? Or what is the problem there? I hope someone has an idea.

Hard to say, if the gpu works in your PC but not his it could be his motherboard. Does he have an ATX mobo? Maybe he can put the gpu in a different slot and see if it works?

We need to know which exact motherboard he has.

There is a P8H77-M LE, and a P8H77-V LE.

The -M does not have a second PCI-E slot, since it is mATX, while the -V does.

Hard to point a finger a what could be the issue but most probably:

  • Motherboard,
  • CPU or,
  • PSU.

It is the P8h77-V LE and i also said that he should but the gpu in another slot but every slot except the first one is inverted?

Should he just turn it around and still try?

Well GPU's, like RAM, can only be inserted in one direction. So if the case permits the card's dimensions to be turned around much like the slots, than yes try the other slots out.

The black slot is the second PCI-E X16 slot.

He can put the video card into there.

The other slots look "inverted" because those are legacy PCI slots  (there is a big difference between PCI and PCI-Express).

Huh, I just fixed a similar issue a few hours ago. I was about to move the GPU to a different slot, when I discovered the power cable wasn't plugged into the GPU.
