I made a mistake buying the 8700k ><

I just ordered it yesterday after a few weeks of reading/watching to figure out what route I want to take, and now it's going to arrive on Friday. I ordered despite knowing the 9th generation was coming up because I figured I would just return it if the 9700k/9900k's benchmarks end up being worth the hassle......

However I didn't realize at the time that returning the processor might void the special 12 month no-interest financing by using the Amazon Store Card for my order... While of course I intend on paying it much sooner than the 12-month no interest period, you never know what could happen so I don't want to degrade that to only 6-months, or none at all if it would be void entirely.

All that being said, I don't know what sources to take seriously about these 9000-series leaks. I was wondering if anyone here could maybe either ease my mind on the expectation of its value/power, and/or let me know something I don't about Amazon's special financing.

Thanks in advance, and thanks anyways if nada.

If it's taking you 6 or 7 months to buy the 8700k, you shouldn't be buying it TBH.

That aside, there's nothing wrong with buying the 8700k. It's still a beast of a chip. That doesn't change because something new comes along.

If you can wait, wait. If not, you've got one of, if not the best CPU available.

I7 8700k will still be a powerful CPU, if you really were disappointed compared to the 9th gen, you can sell it for a bit cheaper to recoup your cost

It would only take one month ideally, but like I said bad things and unexpected finances come up sometimes. And good point.

It honestly all depends on what you actually use your PC for. I've always argued that unless you have a GTX 1080Ti you should not be pairing any card with a i7 8700K for gaming

I'm finally in a good position to start getting my IT certifications and learn video editing, but I am mostly a gamer.

Ooooh for video editing your i7 8700K will be absolutely gorgeous

Yeah that's one thing that I noticed, the 8700k might be better than the 9700k in that aspect with the hyperthreading, and I'm also getting the RTX 2080 since it's only 100$ more than the 1080 ti

The i7 8700K is pretty much the best all-round CPU currently available. Considering Intel can't get 10nm off the ground, I doubt the 9th gen chips are really going to be a massive improvement unless you desperately want those extra cores to get the absolute best export times.

Getting an 8700K in the office instantly made our video editing staff happy (especially our VFX guy). It's the best timeline scrubber CPU and can still export 4K video in approximately real time.

If you want good hardware recommendations, please tell us how you intend to use the hardware. There's rarely a single correct answer.

the 9900k is gonna cost way more anyway, and since the 9700k doesn't have HT you are not missing out on much, unless u have a 1080 ti or up, you are not missing much on a 8700k.

Just because you're happy with it, doesn't mean it's a smart choice ;)

Some people are happy when they spend their entire cheque on scratch tickets, and only win half of it back.
