What can i do with an old Hard drive that was from a laptop

Ok so i salvage my old laptop hard drive its a 500gb which is pretty good and i want to use it for my desktop as a secondary storage device, is it possible to do so and how?

You will need an adapter for the SATA connectors on a laptop drive to fit with the connectors on a desktop motherboard and PSU (they are compatible, just different size). Those are very cheap.

Find a 2.5 to sata adaptor. Specifically I would recommend something like this for you.

Yes you can use it in your pc, all connectors are the same, no need for an adaptor.

Just plug and play.

2.5 inch drives have the same sata connector as the bigger one.

There's no old sata or new sata.

It's pretty much the same from the first inception, except mini sata port that nobody used.

And btw you're linking to a 2.5 to 3.5 "bracket" which is not needed for basic usage.

Where does he say he has a sata hdd? He said an old laptop hdd, which I took to mean it wasn't sata. Hence "old" is a subjective term because you think a sata 2.5 hdd is old tech.

Oh, so i must be mistaken to think that no "old" hdd have 500gb capacity, if old referring to parallel ata that is.
