2080ti or new CPU?

Crimson9X

This Christmas, I want to upgrade my PC hardware so I can get around 100 ~ 144 FPS on 1440p with Medium settings on PUBG and High and Ultra settings on Rainbow Six Siege and Forza Horizon 3/4. I have contemplated multiple options and have come down to two options that fit within my budget. I don't know which one to go with. DDR5 is somewhat around the corner, new Intel and AMD CPU Architecture coming sometime next year, and overall new stuff to buy.

My Current PC Specs:

i7 7700k OC

AsRock Z270 Killer SLI/ac

G-Skill Ripjaws V Series 16Gb (2x8) DDR4-3200

MSI RX580 8GB Gaming X

Corsair PC Case - Spec 2

650W Power Supply Corsair Certified Bronze

Cooler Master EVO 212 Air Cooler

First Option: I could sell my current PC for around $800 without windows or any storage and buy a new PC for Around $2100. I looked at pricing and I could get a 8086k or 8700k, ASUS ROG CODE Motherboard, 32GBS RGB G-Skill DDR4-3200 RAM, ROG Stix 1080ti and possibly somewatercooling, whether that be a AIO or A360G Kit from EK.

or...

Second Option: I could keep my Motherboard, i7 7700k, RAM and Storage, while selling my RX 580 for $250 (Even though that isn't a good price my dad agreed to buy it off me as he only has a GeForce 710). I could also give away my case and get a 500D RGB Corsair for $250 or something cheaper. At that point I would have around $1450. I could get a 2080ti, PSU and new case + AIO cooler and wait to get a CPU and RAM when new stuff comes out in 2019. ALSO, if I go with keeping my i7 and stuff, I want a 2080ti. NOT a 1080ti. I know the price is trash for value's sake but the performance is great.

Thanks for the help, and have a nice day!

if you can only get 1, definitely 2080 ti for immediate performance, 9900k is slightly better futureproofing (if such a thing existed), the 2080 ti won't last long as the top card. Forget about DDR5, ram form factor take 2 years to mature after they launch, happened for ddr2,3,4.

No sense waiting for DDR5 kek

Are you playing at 4k? Tbh, I'd sell the 580 get a 1080/Ti.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

8086k is one of those CPU can only get if you have some strings in Intel, you can pull. Hey if you have money to burn, go ahead and sell your old rig. Probably can get 700 for it

The OP said he wants 2080ti regardless, which I think 1080ti would be better and use the left other to build a second system.

The 7700k is a mere one generation old, of course a 2080 ti would go well with it and see better gains than going from 7th to 8th gen.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

They’re for sale on Amazon so I’m not sure what you mean.

What you mean by what I mean? If you are referring to the 1080 part, I was pointing to the OP saying " I want a 2080ti. NOT a 1080ti."

Myself is well know regarding of the 1080ti being on sale and such and I think that would be better than 2080ti right now

Not sure what you meant about having to know someone at Intel to get a 8086k

Def go with the GPU upgrade if your focus is gaming CPU will give you a fraction of a performance bump compared to a new GPU. Im in the same boat as you have had my i7700k for a long time now but when I compare it to a 8700k and consider a complete platform upgrade MB/MONO Block/and CPU change for what 3-8 fps @4k no thanks. I am considering a GPU upgrade too a 2080ti but more custom variants need to come out hopefully Asus with make a new Poseidon.

In your case GPU upgrade 1000% rest of your system is solid, with a 1080ti or 2080ti but I think that might be a little overkill for that res but hey overkill is where its at.

I don't see how this is a question really, your cpu will not go obselete as fast as your gpu will, and with a gaming focus such as yours I'd go with a graphics upgrade.

You have a very nice system already so I'd sell that RX 580 and just with a new GPU.  Personally I'd go with a 1080/TI just to save money over the RTX cards.

Ryzen 2600 - Sapphire Pulse Vega 56 - Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4 3000 C15 2x8GB - Corsair Force MP500 NVMe PCIe M.2 240GB - 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB -

AsRock B450 PRO4 - Deepcool Earlkase Case -  Seasonic Foucus+ 650

I've had almost an exact same system to you, I've recently upgraded my GPU. Like you, my heart was set for going with the brand new 20 Series cards. In fact, I sold my previous card and had to game with no GPU for 2 months while i waited.

Yet, when they were released, I had a look on Amazon and saw an awesome deal on a brand new top line 1080ti. It had just shy of £600 knocked off of it. Having installed the card and got it running it looked damn smooth..

I can't say for Rainbow or forza, but PUBG and GTAV are looking gorgeous on high settings. I guess In answer to your original question, GPU upgrade all the way. It makes so much difference. Just personally, a top line 1080ti is an absolute beast with everything I've thrown at it. I'm so happy I bought that over a 20 series. I have a feeling it is going to last me a fair while.

Definitely a GPU upgrade, a GTX 1080 Ti or RTX 2080/2080 Ti would be the ideal replacement for the RX 580. I'd just gotten a replacement card for my 2x R9 290X rig, yes, it has a dated CPU in the Sandy-E 3960X but I feel the CPU can still keep up in games. So, for an immediate improvement in terms of framerates and eye candy on a 3440x1440 screen resolution when I game, I'd gotten a Palit RTX 2080 Ti GamingPro OC and will install it in my 3960X rig tomorrow or Sunday.

Now I'm very sure that I will get a 1080ti looking at the performance numbers compared to the 2080ti. Even at $1000 I don't think it would be worth it. Plus the 7700k doesn't cut it for more than gaming so I do need an upgrade there.
