laptop dedicated GPU not used

Go to solution Solved by Electronics Wizardy,

What gpu is chosen in the nvidia driver? there is probably optimus here. Don't disable the igpu, you need it as its connected to the display.

A friend of mine has an HP Pavilion 15 bc400nd with both an intel GPU and a GTX 1050. The problem is that the 1050 isn't being used even when gaming. He tried disabling the intel GPU, updating the drivers and such things but I have no idea what could couse this issue out of nowhere on a new laptop. does anyone know what could be the problem?

the problem is that he can't acces the Nvidia controll panel, maybe because HP is using a different app for that kind of thing
