Hi,

This is my first post so apologies if there's something wrong with the formatting? (I've lurked for a while now and somehow people are always going on about formatting?).

The issue I am having is with windows booting very slowly despite being installed on an SSD, and I mean HDD slow if not slower. What I have noticed is that when I then log into windows is that disk usage is at 100% for the ssd (I have a separate HDD for games etc so task manager actually shows disk usage at 50%). This problem does not seem to occur when I boot into safe mode, or at least its significantly faster. Also worth noting is that usually, if I reinstall windows it will work as it should for about a week before slowing down. I have tried everything from pagefile to superfetch with no luck.

Slowdown occur mostly after POST where windows will show a lower resolution spinning dots and load there for 40 seconds or more, with this comes usually either just black screen before or after or both. Windows Lock screen will then load slowly and respond slowly. Once logged in, though its possible to do things it is as if I was on an HDD if not worse and TAsk manager shows "system" and corresponding programmes to be causing 100% disk usage. This can continue for a minute and total boot time will often exceed 1.40 min. Random 100% disk usage spikes sometimes occur after having been on for several hours.

any ideas?

He already sait that fresh install help but for few days only.

We should look at the programs run at startup (use Autoruns).

Also - slow boot means

1. Long time POST

2. Long time spinning circles while loading system

3. Long time wait for all programs to load after you see desktop.

SSD type may be helpful, but mostly is not important - even worst Kingston SSD should be faster than HDD.

Download Autoruns, run it and show me what is in your startup.

Also - before you do anything, UNINSTALL Antivirus if you're using other than Defender. Not disable, but fully uninstall.

And don't resolve problems by reinstalling Windows. It's most stupid thing people do. In most cases problem returns and you still don't know what was wrong. If it even fix the issue somehow, you still don't know what was reason for that.

Nothing suspicious here, typical system or gaming stuff.

So maybe test that drive speed: http://www.files.xs.com.pl/ssdbenchmark.zip (unzip before run).

just while it runs, in case its worth mentioning theres 78 out of the 111gb free on the drive

Terrible write speed! Something is really wrong with this SSD.

It's not the best drive in the world, but is not total crap. You should have about 300-350 MB/s Seq write speed.

And don't use Driver Booster or programs like that. It's mostly crapware - they may broke more that help.

Use manufacturers' sites (motherboard producer for example). And start installing from chipset driver.

main drivers are installed from manufacturers websites :)

I'm not surprised that it works so bad. Even worst HDD have about 100 MB/s write speed. Your SSD is 50% slower.

Write speed is important too for loading system - pagefile, temproary files etc. It always need not only read speed, but write too.

Change SATA port maybe and check again drive speed.

any ideas what it could be? dudd drive? thing is it works tip top with a fresh install (usually)

I am not opposed to investing in a new one if needed but would be nice to repair if possible
