Hi all,

Long time lurker....I'm finally going to build a new machine after my 3770K is getting a little long in the tooth.

2415

I'm sporting the above CPU currently, with a 970, 16GB RAM, and running dual 1080p Dell S2415H's - I'm going to bump this bad boy up a bit.

So, I'm going for Ryz\en as, despite the fact the blue team has the lock, currently, on gaming, I don't game quite as much as I used to and multi-tasking and productivity (and video rendering) are more of a concern immediately, and gaming performance on Ryzen (especially Zen+) will no doubt improve as games take on more threads/core count requirements.

So, I think I'm sold on Ryzen 2700x, but feel free to talk me down to 2700, and the only other item I'm sold on is a 500GB+ M.2 NVME drive, oh and I'm after a White Mid Tower for my build (so colour coordination for internals is welcomed but not necessarily a huge issue as it'll sit under my desk.)

I have a budget in my head, but at this point, I'm just after some good suggestions for cooling the Ryzen chip: thermals are important, but I can live with a couple of degrees higher if the thing is near silent! Obviously case choice is going to play a part in this also.

I'm also probably sold on a 1080 GPU if I can find a bargain.

So, feel free to offer some suggestions, and I'm happy to get into nitty gritty as/when required!

Thanks in advance!

2700 = 2700x if you're good at overclocking. You should be able to hit the same frequencies on both with adequate cooling. Not to mention, AMD plans on releasing a serious blow to Intel with their 7nm chips next year, apparently performance is even better than expected.

Can't go wrong with NVMe, it's cutting edge, effective, small footprint, everything tech aspires to be.

A good 1080 or 1080 ti can be sourced from the used market if you're ok with an incomplete warranty. You can of course snap up a good black Friday deal soon.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

For multi tasking, the 2700 and 2700x will do the job. Ryzen is also more price competitive than coffee lake. If you're using your PC for any sort of video editing, then getting a PCIe SSD makes sense even if it's pretty expensive. These days, used video cards are pretty cheap and you can pick up GTX 1080s for a good price (I think Science Studio made a video on this).

Cheers guys - so far so good, and I agree hence my choices.

Any ideas on adequate cooling for this with better than average noise levels? That will also play a part in which case I get. I was looking at something smaller like an NZXT S340 but it doesn't have sufficient roof ventilation - perhaps a front mounted rad instead if I'm going AIO? I could always through a Hyper 212 at it again?

Not something to do if noise is to be avoided. Just replace the case fans on whatever you get with Noctua fans, and buy a Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4. The cooling performance is really impressive for the acoustics.

Hi all,

So I've nearly grabbed everything, just waiting on a few price drops but I'm after a white and black 1080..any ideas for models? I might get a vertical riser for it too.

Get the cablemod vertical riser, it just came out and is farther back then most risers to get better cooling. This card is black and white.

Thanks for that - I just found it via another YT video so yes that looks an option.

*snip* - sorry I didn't read your post correctly. Yes that card looks decent. I was also looking at the Zotac AMP

I just need a decent card now. I'm looking for something that is quiet and fits the B&W aesthetic. Thoughts/ideas?

I linked a black card that's the only one that's comes to mind

Yeah sorry, I edited the post just as you were replying.

I'll keep looking and see if I can find a good, quiet White or matte black 1080 at a reasonable price. That's the sticking point currently.

Theres lots of cards I'm sure you can find one. If not, maybe you can take off the cooler and paint the black plate and non-moving parts.
