3200 MHz or 3000 MHz for the Ryzen 5?

Hello,

I am building a PC to replace my 10yr old core 2 duo pc...

I want to use AMD Ryzen 5 for my build...

Ryzen 5 2400G supports 3200 MHz of RAM and not 3000 MHz...(DDR4)

Does it support 3000 MHz?

 

3200 MHz which I might buy : G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200MHz 2 x 8GB (F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX)

Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz 2 x 8GB (MK8GX4M1D3000C16)

 

Which one do I choose?

Ryzen scales with ram speed, and while it doesn't "support" anything over 2933, 3200 will give you higher performance. After that, diminishing returns kicks in hard.

Also, the latency is usually listed as CAS. it'll say CAS 15 or something on the specs, but 3000 and 3200 from the same manufacturer probably have the same latency at a similar price point.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

You should check out videos of people testing that CPU with different ram speeds. It will give you a good idea of what to look for.

Do you mean that 3200 MHz runs better than 3000 MHz ?

they use 2400 MHz ram which a big constraint for me

It depends on the price, I guess, but the G.Skill 3200 kit is significantly better. Not only is it faster, it's also Samsung B-die, which has much better chance of working well with your Ryzen chip at the full rated speed.

You can tell from the SKUs. 3200 CL14 and 3000 CL16.

That helped me... And G.Skill's Heat sink looks more promising than the corsair's

No problem. The heatsink isn't really necessary as DDR4 produces very little heat. But if you like the way it looks, that's a nice bonus.

Just get the Gskill kit if you can, it's much better for an APU like this.

 

The CPU itself supports 2933 officially, but can take up to 3466 with careful tuning. In general, 3200 should be doable in 99% of Zen based Ryzen (including 2400g)

"they?" not exactly sure who it is you mean, but there are people who test with higher speeds
