mobo heat spreader too hot

That's the heat spreader of the chipset. It's normal to be hot, considering its surface area.

hello,

 

The heat spreader on my ASRock extreme z370 is very hot to the touch. I don't know what is getting hot there, it's that box highlighted in blue in this image: z370 mobo. Can someone explain what it is called and what is getting hot there? It is close to the SATA ports.

@Jurrunio, ok, thanks. Can I read out the temperature of the chipset, for example in the bios?

 

I am glad it's normal to be hot but I'd like to know.

Normally it will have software that will tell you temps. Then the numbers turn red when it’s hot compared to its standard.

HWinfo's sensor mode should be able to read it.

Couldn*t find it on HWinfo. I was looking into the Bios, it sais M / B temperature 33 deg. celcius.

 

If that is the right parameter then everything is fine. I felt like it is a lot hotter but maybe I am imaginating things :S

Get your boards software. Bois normally shows it but in a monitoring tab. 

 

Hot to the touch isn’t a big deal. I’m sure if you have a decent card it’s hot to the touch under use too.
