Windows on macos

Ohai

so iv just bought this older late 2011 macbook pro. I switched the old drive for an ssd and all. and I got the os back on it.

its High Sierra.
but I want bootcamp to run windows too. so I can dual boot (and later triple boot with linux Manjaro)

But it won't take my iso. and I don't get why.
ik its not compatible with windows 10, so I tried windows 8.1
but it just doesn't detect the iso on the usb. weather I created a drive to install or just dropped the iso on it. it doesn't work.

Just use Boot Camp Assistant, it walks you through and creates the bootable USB from the ISO in your downloads then boots from it for you and then you can install Win10 and the Boot Camp software to be able to reboot into whichever OS you want to any time.

It doesn't detect the iso....

the assistant just gives me an error and sais "pls insert disk"

On which step? Creating the USB or choosing the Win10 ISO? You need to pick the ISO from on your computer, not the USB you are creating the bootable drive with, and there's always the possibility your USB derped out or failed.

opening the assistant, it gives me the choice of "installing the latest windows drivers"
or "installing win7 or 8"

I pick that and click continue. then it asks for a cd to be put in.

I see this, and then it asks me to insert a USB, and after that it gives me this:

 

I am on Mojave on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro btw, but AFAIK the Boot Camp Assistant hasn't changed much.

regardless of what I do Im stuck here. if I plug in the usb it shows up on the desktop but not in bootcamp.

Damn.... it doesn't even give you the option to use an ISO. I've been doing that since like Sierra and the one before that (El Capitan IIRC but I always get confused, and I'm pretty sure I could use an ISO on Yosemite as well). Does Mojave not support the 2011 MacBook Pros?

I'd assume so, but IDK how to or if it will accept Win10 burnt to disc. I've always used USBs.

im just going to make one for windows 8
I don't mind using the older os for the rare times I will be using it anyway.

I don't think the 2011 Macs supported USB ISOs for bootcamp. 2011 MacBook Pros are compatible with 8.1 or Windows 7, not Windows 10 btw. 

 

You'll have to burn a disc
