GS65 or Aero 15X?

FootGlove

Hi, I'm completely torn between two laptops as listed in the title. Both are very similar in price and in spec but I just want to know more about reliability between the two laptops. I'm currently leaning towards the GS65 because its just better looking, camera is on top and the kb is centred. Does anyone have any long term issues with any MSi laptop like from the GS63 or something? Is gigabyte more reliable than MSi?

I'd say Aero 15X

The battery life alone makes it the winner

Aero 15/15X, better build quality and battery life. Also better upgradability

Hmmm, GS65 has an extra M.2 Slot with upgradable ram but the only downside is that the mobo is flipped. It all boils down to the build quality I suppose. I havent heard anything bad on both yet, that could be a deciding factor.

GS65 chassis has too much flex, Aero 15/15X QC is hit or miss. I would say Aero 15/15X is better

Same with Aero 15/15X, but doing upgrades in GS65 is very difficult due to upside down mobo

  • 2 weeks later...

There's a fair few issues that plague the Aero 15x. Being an owner myself i can certainly say there's a reoccurring issue with the keyboard where a few keys do not seem to properly register when depressed. Also the cooling system used is mediocre to say the least and even after LM application, still suffers thermal throttling.

Laptop: Gigabyte AERO 15X - i7 8750h, gtx 1070, 16gb ddr4, 2TB Samsung NVME

Current Build:NZXT h440, Intel i7 5930k, Corsair H100i, Asus x99 deluxe, 16gb Corsair Vengeance 2666mhz LPX, Evga 1080ti hybrid SLI, Evga supernova 1200w, Lg 34gk950f monitor, 2x Samsung 850 Pro in Raid 0 <p>

QC in Gigabyte laptops is hit or miss. This is a fact.

Also, Aero 15/15X needs LM. Almost all thin and light gaming/power laptops need LM repaste.

As pasha said, some people have problems with the keyboard. RAM is also an issue if you want to upgrade. Some people on the NBR forum used the RAMs listed on gigabyte's list and still doesnt work. Another problem people complains is the backlight bleed.

As Gene said, needs LM, or better repaste, since thin and light dont have enough cooling. btw, I still like the old name better, ZMFong

I personally only have the RAM problem. If one stick work in one slot, in theory it should work in the other, but no it doesnt

If you want upgradeability and battery life, go for aero 15x. If not then GS65.
