Hello, I am wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a server for me? I am on a very low budget, and am looking for a server that is in the $50-$60 price range, ebay is fine, and I prefer it to have all parts included and already installed (RAM, Hard Drive, CPU, PSU). Does anyone know of any good ebay listings?

You'd be hard pressed to find anything decent for that price.

I would advise waiting until you have an increased budget and then start looking at some older servers on the LGA 1366 socket.

Why does it need to be a server?

A regular desktop computer is basically the exact same thing just without stuff like ECC and other features you will never need.

What is it that you're wanting to do with it?

Is power consumption a concern?

Does that budget need to include shipping?

If you're talking about enterprise grade servers, You could keep checking around eBay..you may be able to score a LGA1366 system. Recently I found a listing for Dell R410s for $50 each. The listing has since ended but deals are out there.

There's no place like ~

I mean server is such a loose term. I use a raspberry pi as a server for some things. Perhaps explain what you need it for?

The reason im looking for a server is to do a little 'side project' of mine, which is making a private cloud, to run many VMs on for various things, and have it be locally hosted at my house.

And yes, I know about Unraid, however I dont have a old PC or anything I could use for it at this moment, im just thinking it would be a better (performance and price wise) idea to just buy a already made server instead, and do some other software.

So what you're saying is you have $50-$60 to spend on a multi-core high-RAM box with multiple hard drives.

For that amount of money, this 'side project' is never going to happen.

Maybe you could pay a homeless person $60 to steal one for you though? YMMV

BobbyD52 you aren't going to find what you are looking for in the 50-60 range but i did find this on ebay at just over 100

https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-DL380-G6-2x-Xeon-Xeon-E5520-2-26GHz-Quad-Core-16gb-4x-36gb-2x-460w/292149988339?hash=item44057f0bf3:g:FjcAAOSwznRZ5ORr:sc:FedExHomeDelivery!68135!US!-1

That gets you 8 core 16 thread just over 100GB hdd in raid 5 and 16gb ram

it has 8x2.5" drive bays and will take 2+TB per drive bay and 18 ram slots that will take up to 8GB ddr3 ecc ram so it is expandable.

you can even swap the processors in the future for much better ones 6cores at 3+ ghz

Lots of expansion as a decent entry price. it even come with 4 nics + an ilo that you can get a license for for just about $5 online
