What's the exact model?  The original Vostro 200 came with WinXP and 2GB of DDR2 RAM.  If that's what you have, it's not worth upgrading.  I mean, I don't think it is unless someone installed Win10 after the fact (and it's absolutely choking with only 2GB of RAM).

What sort of configuration? Those things were never powerful machines then, and certainly aren't now. Plus what sort of Steam games are we looking at?

If it was running XP, you'd be lucky to find a C2D...

I'd just start from scratch.

Please tell me you didn't pay more than $10 for a machine that originally ran Windows XP dating back 2006... it wouldn't surprise me if Win10 on it was pirated as well, no one in their right mind would buy a legit win10 key to put on a 12 year old machine.

At most you can upgrade the RAM to 4GB DDR2 667 MHz, replace the HDD for a cheap SSD and maybe get a used GPU from 10 years ago. (Failing that, whatever craptastic GPU available on sale in store for less than 30$ will be better than whatever you have)
4GB of DDR2 is $30, cheap SSD is another $26, cheap ATI 3470 is 10$.

Or really whatever cheap stuff you can find used.

This is just my opinion, but a machine that old(and low end) is not even worth spending money on to upgrade.

Depending on what you've paid +  the cost of the potential upgrade, you could've gotten something like this, which is 6 years old(instead of 12), already has 8GB of DDR3 RAM and better integrated graphics. So you'd only need a cheap SSD and you'd be set.(Though if you wanted to change the GPU, you'd need a new case a PSU as well, but there are other models with a full size case in around the same price range and hardware, it was just an example)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Bazzite

Sorry to say but the only time you should upgrade a machine like this is if you already had it and the extra parts were laying around or free.

Ryzen 2600 - Sapphire Pulse Vega 56 - Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4 3000 C15 2x8GB - Corsair Force MP500 NVMe PCIe M.2 240GB - 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB -

AsRock B450 PRO4 - Deepcool Earlkase Case -  Seasonic Foucus+ 650

yea thought i fucked up i paid a 100, i mean you learn and i have leaerned the hard way thanks

What's the plan for it now?  Going to sell it and look for something better?  I'd try and get most of your back by selling.

If you keeping it you could install Linux on it and see how it runs that.  It might make an okay internet machine at that point.  I suggest this because I can't imagine Windows 10 running smooth.
