i feel so stupid

so i've had ram issues for a while now, ever since i put a new motherboard on my system..

(i mean new to me, i know my system is old)

 

it would randomly freeze, restart, and show a ram error. after a few hours of troubleshooting i thought i got a broken board. i bought it used so that could be the case. 

 

turns out, all it needed was a bios update. i had to slow down the ram before to get it sort of stable, now with the new bios it will run at full speed without problems.

i tried everything besides updating the bios when i was troubleshooting it... i feel so stupid.
