Hi. So my problem is this: Recently there is this strange clicking sound coming from my PC at times. As there isn't anything in one moment there is this strange sound in the next and it doesn't stop unless I shut down my PC and wait for about a minute. If I shut it down and start it immedeately it starts again. It doesn't happen often but it does happen often enough to annoy me and kinda scare me. Do you perhaps know what this sound is and where it could be coming from? I opened my PC several times while it was happening because I thought it might be coming from the fans but I didn't seem to find any problems with them. Please, if you know what it is, help me because it's making me crazy. Thanks.

It doesn't sound like the tell-tale clicking sound of a HDD failure, so that's good!
It sounds more as if something is hitting fans inside the case, such as a fan cable being clipped by the fan blades as they spin. I'd recheck the fans in the case to make sure there's no cables or such that may get caught in the fan blades, as well as try running the system with the case panel open to see if you can pick up on where the noise is coming from more easily.

I think that it must be a fan catching on something. The reason why is doesn't start right away when you turn on the PC could be because the fan is ramping up. Can you open your PC up?

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

As I said I've already opened it while the sound is happening and I've checked all the fans and I didn't really see any cables or anything hitting the fans. That's what I thought at first too.

Yeah I've been thinking the same thing but I wonder why it happens at such random moments. Sometimes it happens like 2 or 3 times a day and sometimes it doesn't happen for a whole week. It happened for the first time around a month or two ago as far as I remember. Sure I'll open it up and try to make a video on it in a bit. It's night out here so don't expect the best quality under the lamps though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozdTGqBoTa0&feature=youtu.be here you go. If you wait a bit it will be in 1080p as well. You know..Youtube stuff..By the way, the noise isn't there because I turned my PC off already and turned it on again but right now it's happening again. It happened for a third time today which has never happened before and I'm kinda getting worried now.. If I get close enough to try and hear the sound it seems like it's comin from the upper back fan but there doesn't seem to be anything that's hitting it as far as I can see..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1_pVJ0EE68&feature=youtu.be Yup..It sure was the fan alright..Look what I tried..But if it's not hitting any cables does that mean it's hitting the case? And why is it happening so randomly..Do you have any idea how I can solve this?
