I have an old computer laying around that I would like to make into a freenas system. I downloaded the ISO, and used PowerISO to create a bootable USB drive, and my computer will not POST and continue with the boot sequence. If I insert the USB drive after the POST, the system freezes right where it is. The ISO file is working because I am able to install it into VMWare workstation. I tried using VMWare to boot from the ISO, then install to the flash drive, but no luck. I have tried multiple USB drives, and multiple computers with the same issue. Anyone have any suggestions?

You say you have tried it on multiple computers and none of them will even boot to the USB? The only main problem I could think of here is that, there is actually a problem with the ISO or installer, and freenas needs to fix the bug and make a new version. Other than that, the *only* other possible problem would be that somehow, none of these computers have enough RAM to run the installer, which I am guessing all of them have more than enough, so most likely, its a problem with freenas.

Just wondering though, you DID access the boot menu on the BIOS and made sure you selected it to boot the USB right?

Yes, I made sure all of them boot to the USB, but as soon as I turn on the computer with the USB installed, I cant even access the bios to manually select USB. I'll try an older version of freenas and let you know how that goes. One of the computers has 4 gigs of ram, and the other has 2 I believe

Freenas requires 8gig ram minimum (it runs off of ram)

Ah alright, I never knew that about freenas heh, good to know!

Yeah the docs also say that it's recommended to have 1 gig of ram per TB.
