New GPU on older MB

Hello everyone.

 

My GPU broke down yesterday and now i need a new one. Thinking about buying either a 2080 ti - or a 1080 ti if the prices go down hard on 2080 release. Either way im rocking and older x79 UD5 Gigabyte motherboard with a 3930k CPU.

 

When i bought my pc it was with an Nvidia geforce 8600 GT - which i then updated i 2014 to a 780 TI. The 780 TI was running "without" problems after i had to change the "PCI rom something" to legacy instead of EFI. So my question is - will i run into any trouble fitting either a 1080 or 2080 on my old gigabyte motherboard ?

PSU is a corsair RM850 - bought back in 2014 too i believe - that should be plenty power yes ?

You really don't need a 1080ti for that resolution/refresh rate

 

should just grab a cheap 1070ti/1080 which are near $400 now

Im a 3D artist I need it for GPU rendering and working in Unreal Engine and other 3d packages.

Cheap Vega FE for the 16GBs of VRAM? Otherwise wait for a cheap used 1080ti most likely.
