Upgrading to i5-8500, which mobo should I pick ?

uriel250

The best options I could find in my country within my budget is Asus - TUF B360M-E GAMING or Gigabyte B360M AORUS GAMING 3, the Gigabyte is 10$ more than the Asus. I am not conisdering MSI because of the issue I had with the Z97 Gaming 5 (died suddenly after 3 months), and ASROCK is not available in my country.

The asus has only 1 system fan header compared to 3 on the gigabyte, and 2 ram slots compared to 4 on the gigabyte, I don't think it matters to me that much because I won't upgrade to 64GB in the next 5 years for sure, maybe to 32GB but not 64GB.

CPU is going to be i5-8500, memory is going to be Crucial 16GB 2666MHz (1 stick).

Which one is better when it comes to overall durability or performance (I have seen the asus has the asus optimem feature so better DDR4 performance or is it just marketing ?) ?

If you can find a better mobo in this site for less than 500ILS, please let me know https://www.ivory.co.il/catalog.php?act=cat&id=2653&orderBy=priceLow&filters[1913][]=6437&filters[1913][]=6436

I'd go for the gigabyte and opt for 2x8GB instead. The extra bandwidth is always a nice to have and will benefit some games.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

I dont think 2-3% performance gain worth it ... isnt it ?

Trust me, it's not just sheer performance. I can actually feel the difference in just normal tasks in the OS as well and loading heavy software. It's entirely up to you, though.

None of the available 2X8GB models in my country listed in the QVL list of the gigabyte mobo.

And it is around 30$ more than the crucial.

QVL doesn't matter on Intel at all, and it's not that relevant on current AMD boards either.

So this is going to be the best pick (I dont care about leds because my case has no window) ?

Or HyperX is gonna be better ? speed will be limited to 2666mhz anyway because of mobo limit.

Pick whichever is the cheapest and has the lowest CAS latency. I can't read this alphabet, so you'll have to find out where that info is.

The HyperX is 2933MHz and 18-19-19

The Crucial is 2666MHz and 16-18-18

Get the crucial then.

But you sure the "Asus Optimem" technology is not any better than the Gigabyte mobo ? How's the gigabyte VRMs, MOSFETs, and chokes compared to asus ?

Don't have any modern Intel systems, so I can't comment on that matter. Also, with an i5, VRMs aren't that big of a deal. It's only a 65W chip. I wouldn't run a 8700K on either of these, though. These are budget boards after all.

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/H370-HD3-rev-10#kf

This board costs 10$ more than the B360M Gaming 3, is it worth it ? It has H370 chipset but does not have the fancy features of the "gaming 3" board.

That is another option for the same price of the H370 HD3 board - https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-H370M-PLUS-CSM/
