I'm looking to build a PC under $2000 in about a month. I've been researching for over a year and even with countless YouTube reviews and guides I still can't decide. I'm planning on playing titles like csgo, rainbow 6, pub g, and overwatch at 1080p. Is it worth it to buy an 8700k? Or is an i5 8600k good enough?

Here's my current configuration:  https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vzJP8Y

8600k is plenty. Although I suggest waiting for the new GPUs, it's only a week before they're out.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

You maybe want to have a look at Gsync or free sync monitors. Pretty nice for high refresh rate esports gaming....

The most demanding game of this list is PUBG, the others are quite easy to run. If you want to blow 2 grand, then sure, this is an amazing gaming PC for years to come ;)

For 1080p, the 8600K would also be good enough and will get you a 1080Ti (or possibly a RTX2080 soon)

wait 3 weeks for the 9700k/9900k (at least a price drop for the 8700k) do not get the 8600k (take this from a 8600k owner, it chokes at mhw sometimes, and many other tasks already)  you can get better ram for that price, i'm assuming you want a nvme ssd? the current ssd is sata. 550usd for a 1080 is quite bad atm, wait a month. (i've seen new 1080 ti for 600). I'm pretty sure that case isn't worth that much, bh had free cases with 1080 ti orders just last week.

get a g2 psu instead of g3 for the same price.
