Hi i'm gonna buy a gaming headset but I'm lost... So I came here to ask you some advice, which headset should I choose ? The Asus ROG Strix 700 Fusion, the Steelseries Arctis Pro, the Gigabyte Aorus H5 or some Logitech, Corsair or whatever gaming headset ?

I personally use the razer kraken v2 (surround sound edition) but thats the only true gaming headset I've used...

Gaming headset is pretty much synonym for heavy overpricing.

Some Kingston HyperX Cloud and QPADs are made by honestly trying Takstar, but most are just from complete trinket factories.

And at 100 $/€ price level you're stepping into range where you get headphones from actual audio makers.

Especially if you aren't actually needing microphone it's better to forget headsets.

Also if you have quiet environment and don't need isolation of external sounds, then open design is better than closed design.

So of course gaming headsets commonly use closed design...

I don't really care about overpricing lmao basically i want something with a great surround sound, with a great mic. AND a compatibility with the Nintendo Switch/Xbox

Binaural sound needed for actual surround immersion requires accurate signal reproduction, so how did you think trinkets were to do that surround?

Especially closed design is challenge for accurate sound.

Hence if you don't need external sound isolation I recommend open ear cup design. It also isolates less heat increasing comfort.

We hear in 3D because head and outer ears cause direction dependant changes to signal received by both ears from sound source.

If signal contains those interaural cues, then 100% accurate headphones would basically give completely realistic feeling sound.

Sound cards have had algorithms for simulating those cues/binaural sound for decade.

With actually good headphones besides directionality there's also feel of distance, instead of sounds coming from next to ear.

While with bad headphones that same signal sounds like having head in bucket underwater.

Bad news is us humans lacking single standardized head shape.

And different head shape needs different cues for accurate immersion.

So even if headphones are good, head shape differing more from average degrades immersion.

At least until Creative releases products with head and ear shape customizable HRTF algorithm.

Xbox would also have Windows Sonic for Headphones, though from couple Yotube clips that's really mediocre.

It can also output DD5.1, which would give source for binaural simulation.

PC games again produce what channel configuration is chosen in Playback settings of Windows.

Not sure what kind sounds that Nintendo outputs.

Actually if you live in Europe Creative's European shop has their (no doubt typical gaming) headset bundled for free with latest external sound card.

It now supports Dolby Digital decoding and works fully with consoles in addition to PC.
