Which card for a 240Hz 1080p monitor: 1080 Ti for £500-650 or 2080 Ti via 0% interest financing

asim1999

I have an Acer XB272 G sync monitor and my GTX 970 is having issues with g sync, so im getting a new card soon.

What would you recommend?

I can get a GTX 1080 Ti bought outright for £500-650 or should i wait and get the 2080 Ti for £1000. But for the latter, i can get it on 0% interest financing via PayPal Credit so i can pay off the 2080 Ti over 6 or 12 months

First off  I wouldn't rush your decision, tempting as it is...

I agree with LMG, Gamers Nexus and Jay2cents wait for the reviews/benchmarks.

With any luck once the new RTX cards have been launched and are actually available.  The price for the GTX1080Ti will start to fall.  However like all last gen tech there will be a point when the 1080Ti price will start creeping back up.  Depending on how true the back log of  last gen Nvidia cards rumor is true.

Personally all this Ray Tracing stuff is interesting and quite exciting.  However like VR you have to invest heavily with your wallet to be in that club.  With any luck we will see some amazing looking games in the future...

Thanks so much for the reply

Im more interested in the DLSS stuff, where the Tensor cores handle the Anti Aliasing and super sampling, so it frees up resources on the CUDA cores

I'm wondering how easy it is for  the game developers to incorporate some of these new features.

As you probably know, sadly a lot of games are developed for the console market, with a PC version commonly released at a later date (in some cases years later aka GTA V).   Considering Higher frame rates are just starting to be a recognized thing, never mind AI AA, Giga rays etc. Sadly all using AMD graphics.  Just don't see consoles getting fancy graphics soon.   We will just have to wait and see.

I will probably invents in maybe a potential 3rd gen Vive in a couple of years, before I upgrade from a GTX 1080Ti.  However I may need a new GC to run that theoretical piece of hardware.  Best get saving now.

I don't think the performance is worth double the price. If you're really interested in the DLSS and other features, you'd be better off waiting a couple years until more games actually make use of them. Unless you plan on playing the handful of titles that will have them when the card launches.

Well I will say that I wouldn't get into debt over a 35% boost in graphics performance even at 0% interest financing. That being said I'd still probably just go with the 1080ti if you can find one at 500£ given the 2080ti would be 100% more expensive for 35% more performance unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket like you're about to get a massive bonus or something.

Don't go into debt for anything . That is my advice .  Either pay for the 1080ti outright which would be my opinion anyway as it is an extremely capable card . Or battle along with your 970 until you have the money . This will give you time for .  reviews and a good understanding of the new cards to come out . Prices to stabilise , and possibly even other models to be released .    But either way at 50 years old the one thing I would say to anyone younger (and I am assuming your younger here) is try and go through live with as little debt as possible .
