Does a backplate for a cpu matter?

Hello my pc keeps turning on and off I think that this may have to do with my cpu.  I zip tied a water block to my motherboard because I bought an incompatible water block and the backplate won’t fit. I have tried replacing the waterblock with the heat sink that came with my computer cpu and my pc worked it did not turn off. The only difference about the water cooler and the heat sink is that the heat sink needs a back plate ad the water cooler does not. So does the backplate have anything to do with my pc turning on and off?

The backplate is only there to hold the cooler and prevent the motherboard from bending, it's not necessary with waterblocks. Your problem is probably overheating caused by poor contact between the cpu and the waterblock.

Backplates exist for two reasons: with air-cooled heatsinks, they exist to reduce shearing stress on the motherboard, hopefully preventing any physical damage from the weight of the heatsinks, and with both air-cooled heatsinks and water-cooling solution, they exist to ensure tight fit against the CPU. You can't get a tight-enough fit with zipties.

So I should probably get a compatable waterblock

Imo this is 100% caused by the zip ties . You should try to get a water block that can be attached properly

The backplate doesn't matter.

The reason it's not working is either because it's overheating or because the CPU doesn't have enough pressure on it to contact all the pins.

Both of these issues are caused by using zip ties.

 

Solution is to buy the proper waterblock and mount it with included screws.

There should be 

I might be more of a hassle

I won't recommend it if your not on a budget
