I'm posting because I need help with what software to use for video editing. Me and my friends play a lot of games regularly and I've started to record our sessions lately with Nvidia Shadow play. My plan is to create highlight videos of the best moments, "funny moments" if you will.

The only problem is that I am a complete knoob when it comes to video editing. I've never done it to any greater extent and the sizes of files and all the crazy features that come with all the free software seems overwhelming.

If anyone could be kind enough to offer me some advise on recommended software It would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer to use a free software, but if they really aren't any good then I would be willing to pay for a proper license. I am not interested in illegally accuiring a fake license at all either.

Thanks a lot for the support!

If you are simply looking for cutting and pasting of video clips, then windows moviemaker does fine.

If you want a lot of flash effects, fade in/out, superimposed effects, then you'll need to go better, and they all have steep learning curves...

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

I have had some real good experiences with Da Vinci Resolve 15, which has a free version with 99% of the features of the full program that you will use.

On my system it is also quite fast with rendering, although standard it uses the CPU to render the most (maybe I could set it so it uses GPU, but I am fine with CPU rendering as I have quite a few threads).

Every video editing software has its learning curves, but after the initial step it becomes easier.

Thanks a lot for the replies. And yes, the edits themselves aren't very advanced. I just want to add some text and chain clips. I did hear recently though that Windows movie maker now has a lot of adds and isn't very good anymore. I guess I'm just going to have to choose one and stick to it. Also one more thing. The video files I have are quite large (22gb) do I trim them in Windows video before or do I do that within the software itself? Thanks again for the support!

Only use one video editor if you want to maintain quality. To export videos you are going to use some vompresdion, and Windowd app previously has only had bad formats as options.

If Resolve feels too complicated, HitFilm Express should be easier to get handle on.
