There is no "default" password on a Ubuntu setup. You can either have a blank password, or one set up.

If the blank one doesn't work, then it's something else and you'll not easily crack it.

However.....the password can be bypassed IF you know what you are doing (I've done this before several times on failed/corrupted installs)

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

How did you deploy this virtual machine?

If it's from an image, then they should have documentation on what the password is for the account thats pre-configured.

If you deployed it and set the password for the "root" user, then you need to sudo -i (to switch to root), and either change the password for the Ubuntu user, e.g passwd ubuntu - or you can edit the /etc/sudoers file to not prompt for a sudo password.

There is no 'default' password for Ubuntu
