Shipping Computer

Go to solution Solved by LogicalDrm,

1. Nothing, actually. GPU is only thing that could harm anything.

2. Use original package material for case. You can add crushed newspaper or other stuffing to add some buffer. Always make sure that expensive stuff is insured during shipping, this may cost you more. You can also pay more for "fragile" label, but I have little to none trust that it actually helps.

3. You package it. Having them do packaging will cost more. Use original boxes and add buffer, as I already said.

(If this is the wrong sub-forum please move it, thank you)

Some questions just popped up in my head:

1.- If you're moving your PC to another city, what parts do you have to disconnect from the motherboard to avoid damage?

2.- Which precautions should you take if you are going to ship a computer by using a package delivery service such as FedEx, UPS, DHL?

3.- When using a delivery service, can you bring the computer already packaged or do they have to package it themselves for safety?

Thanks! :)

For the PC I would remove parts like the GPU and large tower heatsinks and box them up separately. For the whole PC itself make sure nothing is loose and anything that is overhanging is supported with foam blocks.

For the shipping box you should double box it with a good air gap in between the boxes ideally a few inches using some closed cell foam blocks.

Remove the graphics card since it's generally not very tightly secured and put it in a separate box. Fill the case with crumpled newspaper to reduce movement and prevent parts from moving around inside. Whether or not packaging should be done by you or the service varies depending on who you're going to for delivery.
