directional wifi antenna?

Nicnac

We have a smaller shed in our garden where I would like to have good wifi reception but with the AP inside our main house. Is there something like a directional antenna that I can use to "project" the signal? Or will I just have to get a cable or a more powerful router with a larger antenna over all? If there's anything you can recommend that would really help. tia!

How far is the shed from your main house?

It really depends how much you going spend on it. The best would to run a Ethernet cable to the shed and hook another AP or other equipment such as computer/laptop etc. You could also grab some outdoor wifi which can give your whole backyard wifi connectivity. I don't think getting a more powerful router won't help much.

it's only like 20 m but the reception there is really bad

I would just like a slightly better connection without burying a cable haha.

Doesn't have to be super high power either. just something small I can like put in the window or something

You could use 2 ap systems or 2 repeaters

there are some cheap repeaters but I prefer asus

On other side if it is only 20 Meyer you could do the following

use a powerlan adapter

and a extension cable ( those of 20 meter )

plug 1 adapter in your home and the second one on the end of the extension cable in your backyard

the powerlan picks up the signal and will work

or if you got already power there. Then just use powerlan and it should also work

powerlan -> devolo

A fair number of router manufacturers also sell different antenna types that fit on their routers.  For example, I have a directional antenna on an ASUS N66U that's official ASUS branded.

Out of curiosity, is your shed under power lines, other items that could put out a fair bit of interference, etc.?
