Hi there guys,

I have been looking into building a cheap home server  to act as samba server [ubuntu] to 3 home clients over gigabit ethernet for backup and sharing docs and have come across the Intel DQ67OW mobo.

Will be using an i3 2130 and 8gb of ram. Has anybody have had experience with this mobo and are there any issues. I know its old but i can get hold of it very cheap. Also i have the required RAM and PSU for ths build laying around spare.

Thanks in advance.

Server 1:  CPU: i3 2100T  SSD: 840EVO MOBO: DQ67OW NIC: i340 -T4

Server 2:  CPU: Pentium D  MOBO: Dell Dimension 5150

Switch 1: Netgear GS108

Switch 2: Cisco 3500

intel boards can be VERY moody.. there's nothing inherently wrong with them, they're just not even near the experience you'd expect with a board partner board.

what do u mean?

for example, i have a specific intel board that is supposed to support wake on lan, i've had all the right settings enabled since day one, i've dug trough endless forum threads and support articles of people being unable to get it to wake on lan... then one day i'm cleaning up the desktop of a different system, accidentially click the wake shortcut.. and the damn thing responds to wake on lan years after i gave up on figuring why no one seems to be able to wake that specific board..

that said, past that one issue the experience with this board has been rock solid.

Was it a driver issue do you think?

Spoiler

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

nothing changed, network wise, OS wise (not even windows update..), driver wise, software wise, ...

it just didnt work one day, worked the next day, and worked for the rest of time.. in the meantime i've even reset the cmos on the mobo to fix another issue.. and it still works..
