BIOS RE-Write for AsRock AB350/Ryzen 2700x

Go to solution Solved by LDX,

It was the psu....!

Wth?

This is my Board

https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming-ITXac/index.asp#Specification

and this is my CPU

Ryzen 7    2700X (YD270XBGM88AF)

they are brand new

The MB didnt support the CPU withouth a BIOS update

so I took this board to a repair shop where they used

an older CPU a A6 or A8 dont remember..

The system started up, but only with the onboard graphics

didnt support the 1080TI I just bought... could be the PSU

no idea

So they installed Win 10 in order to update the bios

and the installed thay latest BIOS from the asrock site

the Version is 4.70 and they told me it had the 4.40

So after the BIOS update the system didnt start up

but got into an infinite boot fans got on and off after a few seconds

They told me this board perhaps is not okay

and they offered me to re-write the BIOS to the original version 4.40

but for that they needed not the official BIOS version from the site

but a file wioth a BIN extension file in order touse their BOOT writer device

So I went to the asrock site and learned this..

I dont need the 4.70 version i could go either with 4.50 or 4.60

I think I preffer 4.50 version cause os the clock and voltage

And also learned this

https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming-ITXac/index.asp#BIOS

OqUDmpa9TVu-CRl_l6O73w.png

BIOS versions 4.7 and 4.5 had this red warning to update first to a previous version before if u had an older BIOS

but the one I had they told it was the 4.40, so the red warning shouldnt be an issue

BUT again, since I can not boot, they will need that BIN File to use their BIOS re-writer

I cant get a new board cause is MINI ITX and those are not available here

So any help could be great..

De-solder the BIOS chip and put it into a flash reader/writer.

BTW

To obtain a BIN file out of a regular exe bios

I guess I just need to extract it from the exe???

using 7zip or similar??

The BIOS listed on the website is a zip that contains a file named "AB35GIA4.70"...

This appears to be a raw binary copy of the firmware.

Just use USB BIOS flashing in the BIOS itself not windows, still need a CPU though

Ok, yeah, def looks like binary firmware.  There is a section near the top of the file for initializing the platform security processor...

"HMAC Signature Key for PSP Data saved in DRAM"

Looks like there are some comments left in the CPU/PSP init code by AMD.

Well this guy says he still requires a BIN file

and I havent seen any BIN so far

so this thing can be used with an external writer?

cause this guy fromthe shop, is still waiting to somebody

somewhere in asia to send him the files ready to him to use

but im waiting for that since saturday

Yep.  just rename it to AB35GIA4.BIN.  If its an external writer, make sure to make a backup first before flashing this.

If all else fails, contact Asrock and request a new BIOS chip.

Are you sure your life isn't endlessly easier if you can somehow return the CPU and get a likely cheaper R7 1700?

they seem to be totally incompetent people, who have no clue what the hell they were doing.

You don't ned that as this Board also comes with a native way to flash the BIOS out of the BIOS Setup. That way is pretty much standard for all Boards since forever...

So you wouldn't install Windows if you know what you are doing.

And sorry to say but it looks like you need to RMA The Motherboard because they messed up the BIOS Flash. As nobody in their right mind would use Windows for that...

What you can try right now is to use the BIOS Reset according to Manual....

So I took my mb to a second bios guy.. He used his thingy to rewrite bios outside the board... And no success..

I was thinking perhaps is the cpu.. So i took my pc to a friend who happens to be my lds bishop.. Cause he owns a x370 with a 1700x and he tried my cpu on his asus strix.. And it worked like a charm.. And i tried his 1700x on my ab350 and nothing happened...

So im gettin an asus strix x470 mini itx

Since the system did work on a first time with an apu cpu... I think that sombody screwed somthing at some point..

Yeah that's not gonna work out. ASRock support is absolute trash.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

So the asrock board doesn't boot with the graphics card? did you try another graphics card?

If the strix x470 board isn't working that's a whole other problem.
