How do I enable Dualboot? Window/Fedora

Go to solution Solved by userzero,

Can be done with existing. You need to make the Linux grub loader appear first instead of the Windows Boot Manager, or else it'll keep just booting into Windows. All of this info is readily available all over the web :)

Hey, I just installed Fedora (this version) and, I'd like to make it so at startup I can choose if I want to boot into Windows or Linux.

I messed around with my boot order but it doesn't seem to work that way. Any tips?

boot order doesn't affect it. EDIT: Unless you have installed windows and fedora to different physical drives

You need to have windows installed first and then use some live boot to make space in a free partition, then install fedora only to that partition. GRUB will overwrite windows stuff and then you pick from the grub menu at bootup

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

Lookup amending the grub loader. Generally if you install Linux on top of Windows, it'll use the grub loader for Linux and let you either boot the Linux OS, or to use the Windows Boot Manager - which you can then go on to choose your Windows OS. I have Ubuntu with Win7 + 10 on top all choosable on power up.

That's exactly what I just did but after the Linux installation I restarted my PC and it booted into Windows without a question.

(Windows was already installed on the SSD I created the partition on)

I used Fedora Media Writer to create an installer on a USB stick then, I booted into the Live thingy (For lack of better words) and used the Install to HDD option that was on the desktop.

I selected my SSD made a partition and went with the automatic option for installation. After that, it all installed no problem and booted into Fedora.

Not sure what else to tell.

Thanks that did the trick. :D

I had the bootloader as first then Windows and only then Fedora. Moving Fedora to the top of the boot order gave me the option.

I know your problem is already fixed and this doesn't pertain much to it, but what I did when I installed GNU/Linux and then Windows after and was then unable to boot into GNU/Linux was launch a boot loader recovery os and reinstalled grub so it took precedence.
