Student laptop

Hey!

Im currently looking for a new laptop for college. My school recommend's an i7, 16GB of ram and at least a 512GB ssd.

Quite a configuration but if i would buy one without these guidelines i'd probably end up with someting like that anyway.

I've looked into the surface book 2 , XPS 15 9560 (because 9570 is not available yet in belgium). I really like a good design a huge battery.

I'll be programming a lot so a decent keyboard is a must.

budget €1500 - €2500 with some flex on the max. It will be carried around a lot.

also, not a macbook and item must ship to belgiumxD

Feel free to leave a suggestion. I'd be happy to take a look at them all.

Thanks!

You school seems to have no idea what they're on about. What applications would you be running on it?

And don't look at battery specification JUST look at real world battery life if you weren't doing that.

i7 8700k 5.0GHz 4.0Ghz Cache (Stock Cooler)

2x8GB 3400mhz RAM 19-19-19-38

GTX 1060 3GB 2050Mhz Core, 9500Mhz Memory

Not really a direct answer to your question but dont even think about getting an HP. I've never seen such bad build quality. One of my hinges broke because of daily use and basically ripped out a good chunck of the top cover above it (about 2cm x 3cm so pretty significant)

does your laptop need a powerful GPU like a 1050 or higher or is an mx150 good enough?

I would recomend an Lenovo X1 Carbon, just because of the MIL Spec testing

Yeah I'll be running some VM's on it as well as a lot of IDE's; intelji, visual studio, android studio etc.

My surface pro 4 (i5) struggles with this

I would recommended this if going do game rendering/auto cad but for programing you probably wont need it.

Hmm same with LG Gram

I would personally get LG GRAM 15 for the weight and the battery life.

Ooh wauw, I just looked at the retailers site's (coolblue,bol.com ; you probably know these;)

Yeah xD. Dell has a decent web shop, though, so if I can't find a product elsewhere, I go straight to them.

Yes but how thrustworthy is it to order straight from them. If you have a retailer I can just send it back for free if something is wrong with it...

if you dont need the most powerful GPU, a Huawei Matebook X Pro might be a nice choice. it is in many regards one of the best thin`n lights you can get your hands on.

They'll likely send it to a Dell repair facility anyway. I know for HP for instance most laptops get sent to Poland.

Probably true, they can't be bothered repairing that themselves.

PS i just heard back from retailer coolblue they aren't planning on selling the 9570 for the next few months as they cannot get their hands on the devices from dell

if you mean its Sketchy, its not. ive eyed one out since January since its announcement. they are very nice laptops. just keep in mind the Matebook X is not the same as the Matebook X Pro. you will want the Pro version as the regular one is a year older and otherwise worse in every regard

Dell says they can ship it in less than a week, so I guess that's why retailers don't have them. Even Dell is selling them pretty quickly.
