RM550x or EVGA 550W G2 or EVGA 650W G3?

Geotropism
Go to solution Solved by seon123,

For a 1080? 450W is plenty, even assuming you're overclocking.

Depending on what's available, Straight Power 11 450W or Whisper M 450W. If neither are available, then the RM550x 2018, RM550x or Formula 450W.

Stuck between these three power supplies. Which would be a better pick? I want to go for the 650W G3 but I've heard it has an aggressive fan curve so it's louder and something about only using a fraction of high wattage power supplies lead to inefficiency. Would the G3 be louder or quieter than my old CX750M green variant?

Haven't used any of these but an RM550x would be my best guess. G2 is rumored to be loud and G3 to have no overcurrent and over temperature protections.

Any reason why I shouldn't go for EVGA?

I'd just take whatever's cheaper

They're all within £1 of each other.

Compared to the PSUs I recommended, both are louder, and the G2 has a below spec hold up time.

Thanks. I'll rule out EVGA then. How about Seasonic Focus 750W Gold? How does that compare to the RM550X? I can get it for around £20 cheaper used.

Don't buy a used PSU.

Fair enough, thanks. I'll get the Corsair PSU once I have the money. Thanks.
