SPEEDRUNS!

Go to solution Solved by PlayStation 2,

I love seeing runs where the player just tries to break the game as hard as they can to complete something slightly faster.

When I think speed run I think about how fast the game is finished. Im not going to think about like "well oh shit they didnt talk to that one guy hm"

It's like asking whether a 100m olympic sprint event is better or more impressive than olympic marathon. One is not necessarily better than the other or more impressive. It's a different kind of sport which requires different preparations and skillset.

I enjoy watching random GDQ events and it doesn't matter whether it's a 100% or any % run. They are different in their nature.

Any % usually requires high technical skills and extensive knowledge of glitches and skips. It's fast and if you don't know the game through and through sometimes you don't even know what you are watching.

A 100% is more user friendly to watch because there are no glitches that skip half of the game or smth like that. It all depends on the game though because there are titles where you are allowed some mistakes that can be nullified later but there are also titles where you have to maintain concentration for, say, 4 hours because they are so competitive (I think Zelda games are close to that point).

Then again, not anyone has the patience to watch a 100% run in its entirety.

Anyway, going back to the question, I don't find one more impressive than the other just like I don't think a 100m sprinter is a better runner than a marathon runner.

i get your point . but i never said which one's better. lol i never forgot about this i was very high watching a doom 2016 speedrun and was so impressed by it.

the question was which is more impressive. to me a 100m sprinter is more impressive. just a matter of opinion. even though he might be a little less efficient or whatever less performance ? idk compared to a marathon runner , it just is more impressive :P thats why i wanted to ask

i was high as fuck when i posted it i dont even remember what i was thinking back then .

In my experience, I don't really like the speedruns that rely on glitches and breaking the game. Like Portal being done with 13 portals or something because the guy glitches through the elevator and skips 3 levels or something.

I did see a speedrun of Fallout 3 (Which I haven't played) where the guy left the vault, ran left, went in to a building and past a bunch of enemies, hit a button and ran out, then went somewhere else and threw a grenade at some...thing and... roll credits. That was kind of fun to see how "open" the game was without really relying on "breaking" it. I wouldn't call it a 100% playthrough though.

So in my mind, the ideal speedrun is the fastest way to beat the game without glitches, hacks, or cheats.
