Hello.

Please, I would like your help in the issue I have.

My motherboard is an ASUS M3N78 (AM2) and CPU AMD 9650. The boxed cpu cooler is the following:

https://www.amazon.com/Phenom-Heatsink-Cooler-9500-9550-9600-AM2-AM2/dp/B00ZEP4N3Q

What I want to do is to replace just cpu fan. Somebody has suggested the following case fans, because they are ok as far as it concerns dimensions. And indeed, the dimensions are just fine.

What I do not know how to do is how to mount a specific case fan of these to cooler. The boxed fan is mounted with four plastic clips (two from each side). But the ones in the link have not these clips. The have just screw holes. So, how could they be installed?

Thank you for your time !

No, as you have the crappy all Aluminium heatsink wich isn't great.

You can get a good Heatsink for that for like 10-25€

For example Scythe Katana.

And you wouldn't find a 70x10 or 70x15mm fan easily anyway and a good one cost at least half of those Heatsinks. So get one with a Heatsink...

Could you please send a couple of these good heatsink suggestions you described?

My case is not so big (mid case). And the ram modules are about only 10mm far from the edge of the fan.

Why do you want to replace the fan?

i think you will reuse the screws that are in your current cooler to attach the fan to the heatsink

It's not a screwed fan. From two opposite sides of the fan, in each side it has from two plastic (how to say, now?) hooks, that they are there to make the fan get hooked on the heat sink.

Well, it's the original (cpu boxed) fan. Bought in Dec-2008. It's a 10 years old fan, that makes a horrible noise now. I cannot work on the pc anymore. I get a terrible headache from the fan noise !!!

Yey, I know, I have something like that lying around here somewhere, though most of the AMD Boxed Heatsinks I have here are the quad Heatpipe ones...

But I was talking about the Heatsink itself. There are the ones that clip on the Original RM, there are the ones where you have to disasemble that and mount screws to the Motherboard directly (with a Backplate of course).

The included fan is rather high rpm to compensate for the small heatsink. Replacing the fan with a quieter and lower rpm one would probably result in sacrificing some performance. The suggested 70mm fan replacements are also high rpm and are probably pretty noisy. If you haven't done so in a while, replacing the thermal paste can help improve cooling and get the fan rpm to how it used to be before.

If you want significantly less noise, it'd probably be better to replace the cooler altogether as opposed to just the fan. The M9a is a good option: https://www.bestprice.gr/item/2155284229/cryorig-m9a.html

Thank you for searching and suggesting in a greek domain !

I agree with all of you in your suggestions about replacing the cooler altogether. My money is ok for making this whole replacement.

I have tried to replace the cooler about a month ago, but, unfortunately, it didn't work. The cooler I have tried is like the one that you suggest. The one I have tried is:

https://www.e-shop.gr/be-quiet-pure-rock-slim-p-PER.643659

It didn't work because my case is a mid-one. It's an ASUS VENTO A8 TA-863. It is and old one, that the PSU is placed on the top, and at the top the case has no airflow slots. So, I tried to place the cooler. In both sides I had the air flow direction, immediately the GPU raised the temperature. In 3-4 minutes, it would reach at about 76-77 C, and was rising up. So, of course I turned the pc down. I returned the cooler back to the store.

As you have written above, CPU (so, case too) are bought on 2008. Since then, I have not upgraded it, because there was no reason.

As you understand, an efficient cooler is not one that is mounted vertically to the motherboard, but parallel to it. But, the problem is that, the parallel one cannot be so big, as I suppose it will come in touch with heat sink, and unfortunately only about one cm far away are mounted ram modules.

By mounting back the original fan to its place, of course I have replaced thermal paste. But no noise improvement and no rpm down.

I'm guessing that its one of those AMD sockets which only allow one kind of mounting. PSU would be intaking hot air from air cooler so thats really not issue. Also 77C under stress load or even gaming load is normal temp for GPU. You should be worried if it goes over 85C. I have modern PC case and my GPU with stock cooler goes to 81C with fans at limited speeds. Perfectly good for me. Its about at 74-77C while gaming.

The PR Slim is similar to the M9 if not a bit better. Your temps aren't low but they're fine. Replacing the cpu cooler is the best option for lowering cpu temps and getting the PR Slim or M9 should fix that issue. If you also want to lower graphics card temps, what you need is a rear exhaust fan.

F8 or F8 Pro would be good:

https://www.bestprice.gr/item/2155150918/arctic-f8.html

https://www.bestprice.gr/item/2153716528/arctic-f8-pro.html

F8 Pro performs better, is 34mm thick instead of 25mm, and can only be mounted as an exhaust or in push. This is good to keep in mind if you plan to reuse it in another system.

PW2's are even quieter:

Well, GPU that I work with is the onboard of ASUS M3N78. I do not have installed any extra PCI-e.

So, on both directions of airflow (even if Be Quiet! PR Slim was dropping air to PSU), this specific onboard GPU was raising up its temp. As far as it concerns PSU (if e.g. M9 or PR Slim drops air to PSU), since you say that there is no problem with PSU since it's not any issue that it will be intaking hot air from air cooler, that's fine.

Now, the one that I do not know is if I would be installing both M9 + F8 Pro (for example) if I would have the result I am looking for:small temp, low noise, and the hot air that cooler would cast off, the case fan would expel it. Since it is in the back of the case, would it efficiently get the hot air of cooler in order GPU not to get hot?

I didn't realize you were referring to the onboard gpu. A downdraft cooler would be better at cooling that.

Iori: https://www.bestprice.gr/item/2154252979/scythe-iori.html

Grand Kama Cross if you don't mind the installation: https://www.bestprice.gr/item/2155272432/scythe-grand-kama-cross.html

I am sorry if discussion shifted to GPU temp. The matter that I open thread is that I have a terrible noise in CPU fan. In the extent that I cannot work on pc now. Headache!! For a long days, I have my pc off, and working via laptop. Both CPU and GPU temps are just fine. The only matter is CPU fan noise.

The discussion has finally reached GPU temp in the following order:

only CPU fan replacement difficult/impossible ---> CPU cooler replacement ---> CPU airflow drops air on GPU ---> in this way GPU temp raises ---> GPU cooling matter

In this way, a new matter was created (GPU temp), that does not really exist.

True is just looking for CPU fan noise solution.

It's not a great solution unless it's both quieter and cools well which is why the Iori or Grand Kama Cross would be better options.
