Can you move OS From Hard Drive to NVMe SSD?

This is just a general question I had. I have an office computer I game on, and I noticed it had an extra pcie x4 slot available on the mobo. I was wondering if I put an NVMe SSD there, could I move the operating system (windows 10), and only that, to the SSD from the 1tb HDD? If so, how? This is my first forum post, and I am relatively new to computers, so bear with me, and thanks for the help!

You'd be better doing a fresh install rather than copying files over, it can cause some issues. 

As you only want to copy W10 over it makes more sense to do a fresh install anyway.

You can move Windows, but you risk driver incompatibility and corrupting Windows. Your best bet will be to reinstall Windows.

If you go for a large one You could put the O/S and some games, that you play a lot.

 

Windows with updates and some program like Skype, Mail, ..... should be about 40 to 50 g depending.

Ok. Thanks for the help! Don't want to risk anything, so getting a new copy does sound like a smart idea.
