Hard drive transfer equipment

Hello, 

Looking to purchase transfer equipment to have hard drives transfer to other machines

 

For example" I have a pc , and want to transfer to a mac" 

 

Should I get a hard drive dock and a USB to Sata  cable ? Would that be enough for harddrive transfer situations ? 

 

Also , do programs like gparted transfer files or just format drives ???

@Nipplemilk909If you wanna transfer between PC and MAC u have to take into consideration the file system also.

This cannot be done transferring from Mac to PC, or vise versa.

 

If what you want to do is transfer files from a PC to Mac then a disc dock would do it but you would have to format the drive to ExFAT or FAT32.

I dont need to transfer the os just the memory that was in the 250gb into the mac. 

 

So I do need a dock or can I do it with a sata to USB? On the mac

If the disk is gonna be formatted with the data on the drive then the data would be lost surely?

how would i format a drive that is already being used? (the mac..)
