PS1 price

Go to solution Solved by minibois,

Not really, because PS1 consoles are just so plentiful + PS2 is the most sold console ever, also very plentiful and can also play PS1 games.

You should totally check out your second hand market to judge for yourself and it depends if you are just getting the console + cables + controller or also games.. But getting a PS1 for 14 euros and flipping it wont get you big bucks.

Honestly PS1 doesn't make sense for any but the most hardcore old school gamers IMO. The appeal of a real PS1 over PS1 emulation on the PS3 is it'll give a much better picture on a CRT or through an upscaler since it outputs pure 240p (as will the PS2), while the appeal of the PS1 over running on original hardware through the PS2 would be that the PS1 is a hell of a lot easier to hardmod so you can play burned discs. Otherwise the only appeal is aesthetics since the original PS1 is such a good looking system. But I see them all the time at flea markets in the US for $10 to $15.

Is 14 euro a good price for a PS1 if you say, wanted to try to flip it?

Flip it??

Anyway, the first gen 3d Consoles are pretty shit, the games didn't age very well. Especially Playstation and Playstation 2 didn't age well at all.

Especially since the PSX can't even do simple things like Texture Filtering and the PS2 doesn't do Mip Mapping wich causes Flicker.

The Buttom line is that Original Games on Emulator look better...

And another Problem is the controls of many 3Games. As that was a totally new thing, nobody really knew what to do with it and how the control works. While it is more or less standardized today, it wasn't back in the day. And some games have really awful control.

You can see something like that in the Crow Game and AVGN had a Video about that AFAIR.

And the next Problem, as was said earlier, PS1 Games are supported by PS2 and PS3 as well. So if you want to play them, a PS3 might eventually make more sense than a PS1 if you want to play PS1 Games...

For "Retro Nostalgic" a PS2 might be the best choice...

So the only reason to get a PS1 is for the analogue cable, if it comes with one of the better SCART/RGB Cables...

@SteveGrabowski0

The PS3 still has analogue output. Though you have to set the PS3 to use it accordingly, it works more or less well (my ALDI TV has Problem with the higher 576i (or was it p??) Output. And I also don't have a Playstation Component cable.

It still won't give a 240p/288p signal like a real PS1, instead it outputs 480i/576i.
