When people call a monitor a computer and the actual computer a CPU, also when someone says a "Mac" is better than a "PC" because they are both Personal Computers.

I agree, Godspeed is a great band too :P

I hate the biggest media store here in Slovenia where I live. I bought a PC from them a few years ago, took them 53 days to replace a hard drive. They also have no idea about anything, asking them about mechanical keyboard you get replies such as "I don't know" or "what?". They don't even sell adapters or anything, they don't even know how a molex looks like and they market PCs as Gaming PCs with GT 630. Also prices are *2 the US prices.

Case: Xigmatek Alfar (Black) | CPU: Intel Core i5 4460 @3.2GHz | MoBo: Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP | RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 1600MHz | GFX: Gigabyte GTX 660Ti 2GB

It's funny when people talk about MOSFETs, but don't even know what does the acronym stand for, or, god forbid, know what a transistor is. Also, when my dad (sorry dad :( ) tries to talk about electronics and inner workings of it. I just facepalm...

not tech related but when people call soda pop its made of SODA water not POP water SODA water

I just  call all soft drinks 'coke' despite being not coke.

Or gaming motherboard too

I don't like anything labeled 'gaming' as it is an excuse to slap another $20 on the product and cover it in plastic.

I hate it when companies have a really fancy 100-200$ case that looks all techy and space-age like meanwhile the hardware inside it is junk and it only has a Nvidia GT 680 or GT 630 or some crappy graphics card in it.

And then they label it as "GENESIS ELITE GAMING COMPUTER IV" and they put a price tag of 600$ on it just for something with a Nvidia GT GPU and a low-end Intel i3 processor.

A good example of this is alienware, or cyberpower, or ibuypower.

Either that or they give you an Atari and tell you its the newest gaming console.

Did not really annoy me so much as make me laugh - the other day at work (I work in a law firm so not tech related) I was told to click the "pizza button". I said, "ah you mean the start button?", "NO I mean the pizza button!". Riggghhtt is this how we are teaching people to use windows these days?

App I also hate

any one of apples naming conventions, like retina display or "super drive" and pretty much anyone who blindly buys apple everything without a reason only "cos they are the best".

Finally one that really annoys me, people calling their internet connections wifi. As we all know wifi by itself is simply a local wireless networking standard and cannot connect to the internet without an ISP and modem. Yes it shares your internet connection with multiple devices but it is not the internet itself! I really have to bite my tongue when someone says, "yes I finally have wifi connected again", no you had wifi all along as you had a 802.11n router/modem, what you did not have was an ISP...

But anyway I generally dont correct/point things out to people that are not tech savvy as generally they do not care at all and you can sound like a bit of superior douche if you do. Obviously different if they are unsure and specifically asking for your help.

For me, it is "future proof". Nothing is future proof, dummy! My god, does it annoy me. Next to that is people who shorten "mobile phone" to "mobile" and "microwave" to "micro". Those last two actually make me almost want to slap them across the face with all my might. So what are your tech-related pet peeves in vocabularies?

"Next-gen" "Gaming"

consoles run at 720p next gen game.. NIGGA WE IS AT 4K!

Someone plays LoL for days or CoD, calls them a Gamer.

I'm sure a million people have said it, but the term "cloud" irritates me to no end.. It's because of the way in which it's used, just the name it's self, how pointless it is to even have the name, etc... Damn You Cloud!

You don't have to play 'the best games' and 'run everything on ultra' to be a techy guy

I have a few peeves, usually they are presented as is in CAPITAL LETTERS:

1. GAMING

2. ULTRA

3. SUPREME

4. GAMER

5. XTREME

6. KILLER

Because the systems / parts that sport these names are usually absolute garbage. I also cringe when people with prebuilts from Origin or CyberPowerPC (YIKES!) refer to their computer as SUPER GAMER XII KILLER EXTREME GAMER instead of just calling it their computer. I really do, I cringe so hard that my face hurts for a few minutes and I also lose a few hundred brain cells when this happens. Because obviously a -T i3 combined with a GT 610 is a great gaming PC.

I also hate it when people ask me why I'm always building "gaming PCs" when they see me on LTT (every week). First of all, not all custom-built PCs are gaming PCs, and just because I'm on LTT doesn't mean I'm always buying new parts and building new rigs. It's akin to if I were to ask them "Are you buying a new car? I'm guessing you also bought a car last week when you were on that forum" when I see them discussing on a car forum.

I also hate it when people say "Oh yeah, I have a gaming PC as well" and it turns out to be a iBuypower piece of garbage or a HP "high-performance" desktop.

-snip-

WORD!!!!!! There are kids at my school that say that I should by Alienware computers because they claim to be "the fastest gaming PC in the world". Fuck no, I am going to build my own PC and not spend good money on a Dell POS.

If I sold custom-built computers I wouldn't participate in that compulsive shit. I would do it the real way, as in present real-world benchmarks to them instead of giving them meaningless buzzwords.

On the part about not all builds being gaming PCs, I agree on that. I want to do a build not for gaming (besides a little OpenBVE) but for REAL WORK. I don't game at all.

This just reminded me that marketing buzz words annoy me as well! at the moment with ultra HD every man and his dog is using ultra for the name of their product or service. For example Telecom here in NZ is calling fibre "ultra broadband" and they now have "ultra mobile plans"

I'm an extremely tolerant person, so must of this stuff doesn't bother me to the point that i'm angry or anything, but anyone who says "text" or "internet" speech in real speech, sounds like an absolute dumbass. "Oh man he totally failed that test, geegee (gg)" "Gotta pee, beearebee (brb)" I assume this is most of the highschoolers these days :)

I sometimes do that with my friends if I'm joking around and being funny, but when people use it in normal everyday conversations I can't help facepalming.

I hate when people pronounce and spell gigahertz as jigahertz. According to the Oxford dictionary Gigahertz is pronounced with a "G" and not a "J" and it should be spelt with a "G". Jigahertz is not actually a word!
