One is 3GB/s the other is 6GB/s

 

This.

SATAIII has a max throughput of around 650-700MB/s

SATAII is 300-350MB/s

Those speeds are incredibly slow. Are you sure you are using a Sata III connector?  Try a different benchmark utility and post to see difference.  That drive should perform better than that.

 

If you continue to have problem, return it and get another OR buy a Plextor M5P Xtreme drive. $220 will get you a 256Gb and $110 will get you at 128Gb.
