Is mining possible or beneficial with this card? I didn't buy this card for the purpose of mining, I'm asking this so I could let my PC 'mine' whenever I'm not playing games

Nvidia cards are not recommended for mining as they do not directly support openCL. AMD cards are where it is at for mining which is why the prices have sky rocketed recently. a GTX780 mines at about the same speed as a 7850 (or there abouts) so unless you're looking to game and use g-sync/shadowplay with a little mining on the side, I would go team red.
