Need new CPu

Thisapear

I currently have a RX 580 and I have also a 144hz monitor. I'm not gaming on really recent games so I dont mind not playing them at 144hz. I play "old games" like league of legends.

I think I need a new CPU since mine ia getting old. (Intel I7 950). I also have a motherboard rampage extreme III. And some old rams that I bought with my Intel I7 950 back then.

My question is : What CPU and motherboard should I buy? Also , should I buy RAM too?

For my budget Im not so sure, it really depends

Get a used Xeon X5670 or something similar, a good cooler if you don't already have one, and max out the RAM (24GB is the max the chipset supports IIRC). That's the best price to performance upgrade you can get right now, considering you already have an X58 motherboard.

12GB would also be fine. Considering you'll want to take advantage of triple channel memory with X58.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

why would I need 24gb of ram?

Because I'm assuming you have, like, $300 or so to upgrade, might as well max out the RAM. You could also go with 12GB like Neliz suggested, but you'd want to run it in triple channel (don't do what I did).
